About Spud
Music and technology virtuoso "Spud" continues to celebrate a string of remarkable achievements. Last year, he earned a Doctorate in Music Production, Technology & Innovation from an esteemed college in Atlanta, sharing the stage with luminaries such as Tyrese Gibson, D-Nice, Raheem DeVaughn,Sean Garrett, Claudia Jordan, Brely Evans, Jennifer Freeman and countless others at a star-studded doctoral graduation ceremony. Adding to the celebration, Spud was honored with the prestigious USA Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award—a distinction that firmly establishes his status among music’s elite.
With a career spanning more than two decades, this multi-talented composer, instrumentalist, and music tech innovator has captivated audiences across radio, television, and documentaries.
“The Producer’s Corner with Spud Too Tight,” his historically acclaimed podcast, became a go-to resource for both aspiring musicians, seasoned industry and celebrity professionals, offering exclusive music tech insights and behind-the-scenes music making stories.
Innovation is at the heart of Spud’s work. His groundbreaking V.S.C. (Virtual Studio Configuration) technology invented in 2009 has transformed podcasting by allowing live, high-quality stereo audio streaming from any studio setup—no USB microphone required and it also has the ability to receive live incoming phone calls from viewers. On YouTube, his passed tutorials have quietly amassed nearly 90,000 views, empowering producers, musicians, and engineers to master the latest techniques in music technology and software.
The impact of Spud’s creativity extends well beyond the studio. Successful long term music collaborations and technology/sound design integration with legend Teddy Riley, the “King of New Jack Swing,” developed into a strong professional bond and pivotal contributions as music supervisor to Grammy-nominated singer Karyn White’s tour cover music recreations, showcases his profound and gifted versatility. His nostalgic music is also featured in the acclaimed graffiti documentary “Bomb It 2,” directed by Jon Reiss currently streaming on AppleTV and Amazon Prime.
Breaking barriers as one of the first African Americans to receive music technology and innovation honors from a renowned institution, Spud continues to inspire. Upcoming projects with music supervisors and sync companies promise fresh sounds for film, TV, and beyond.
